October 14, 2026Flyby 1.2.2 — Light Direction
Oh...hi Mark. Don't mind us; just landing for a quick update. If you're curious...
New
- Light Direction: the Sun tab now maps where the sun rises and sets over your spot, and which way to face for the best light. Works offline, too.
- Ideas in My Places: suggestions for where to fly next, picked from your own places when the forecast looks good. Tap one to open it.
- iPhone Duo Support: unfold it, and every tab, the map, and Settings make use of the bigger screen.
- Field View: stand your Duo half-open and Flyby shows your Fly Score, wind, and the next sunrise or sunset in big type. The screen stays awake while it’s up.
Improved
- Simpler Locales: the options menu is gone. Edit now lives in the header, and you can save where you are right from your location’s card.
- Fresh Look: the screens for adding an aircraft, planning a flight, and logging a flight now match the rest of Flyby. When you add an aircraft, you can pick any of Flyby’s 3D models for it.
- Side-by-Side Details: on iPhone Duo, details open next to what you’re looking at instead of covering it.
- Now on Today: the hour you’re in is labeled “Now,” so it’s easy to spot.
- Smoother Sun: tapping Now on the Sun tab glides the sun back instead of jumping.
Fixed
- Saving your current location in Locales sometimes saved a different place.
- Plan no longer says a day is over your limits when its only good hours are after dark.
- Your location’s coordinates no longer show up twice in its details.
That's all for now! We'll fly back around soon. Happy flying!

October 5, 2026Flyby 1.2.1 — Location Menu
New firmware version available. Update now?
Hello, drone pilots! A new Flyby update is here and it brings small (but mighty) updates to your preflight companion. Let's dive in!
New
- Location Menu: tap on the title on Charts, Sun, or Plan to switch between your current location and saved locales.
Improved
- 3D Scanning: the build screen now shows your drone forming from a cloud of points.
- Timezone Handling: Sun, Plan, and charts show times in the location's own time zone, including sunrise and sunset, golden and blue hour, flight windows, and chart hours.
- Design Refine: Charts, Sun, and Plan have cleaner headers.
Fixed
- Planned flights are scored only on the hours they cover.
- Sunrise and sunset could show the next day's times when a place was already on a different date from your phone.
- Harsh midday light is judged by the place's clock rather than your phone's.
- Plan no longer marks a flight window as planned when your own plan ends where the window begins.
- Removed old bits of code from early test versions of Flyby.
That's all we have for now. We'll be back soon with more updates! Happy flying!

September 28, 2026Flyby 1.2 — Wind at Height
Greetings, drone pilots! We're back with some exciting updates for Flyby. Learn more below!
New
- Wind at Height: view wind speed and direction at 33, 262, and 394 feet above the ground for up to 72 hours, on both Today and in the new Wind Chart.
- Flight Height: choose where you usually fly in Pilot Limits. The Wind Chart will now open at that height, and your wind limit will be checked against the elevation readings and the surface reading.
- Preflight Checklist: a "Before you Fly" list on each planned flight with seven suggested checks for what Flyby can't.
- New App Icons: additional icons Quad and Sunset for all users, and Ascent and Coast for Flyby Pass users.
Improved
- Fly Score: your wind limit now uses the stronger of the wind on the ground and the wind at your flight height. What Shapes this Score shows both values.
- Planned Flights & Flight Records: the forecast shows wind at your flight height beside the wind on the ground.
- Hangar: swiping between aircraft is smoother, with each drone moving with your finger. The embedded menu has also been reworked.
- Flight Windows: page through hours with the arrows beside each page's best hour, and tap Now to jump back (on Today).
- Wind Card: a more compact layout, with forecast details beside the title and data credits at the bottom of the page.
- Free Flight: trees sway and water ripples with the wind, flying eases into turns and stops, and the town's coast now curves into beaches and shallows, with boats passing each other around the bay.
- Flyby Pass: every Flyby Pass paywall screen now has a clear close button.
Fixed
- Compass directions in Today's wind details now read "NE" instead of "Ne."
- Hangar now opens on the aircraft you're flying, and its drone no longer snaps back partway through a turn.
That's all for today! Thank you for using Flyby! We'll be back soon with more updates! Until then, happy flying!
